Biography

DR. KALU, OMOKORIE OBASI

Dr. Kalu Omokorie Obasi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental and Toxicology, College of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (CNREM), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. He holds a PhD and MSc in Environmental Health Biology from Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), BSc in Applied Biology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Dr K. O. Obasi has additional skills/training in accountancy, toxicology, data analysis (SPSS, SAS and Excel). His research interests include: Aquatic toxicology (heavy metals and endocrine disruptors) water pollution and its control, Environmental health (bias in water and sanitation). Obasi, Kalu O. was Chemistry and Biology teacher at remedial centres for about ten years. He started lecturing with the Institute of Continuing Education Programme (ICEP), Imo State University, Owerri in 2002. He subsequently secured appointment with Federal University of Technology, Owerri in February 2005, starting with the Department of Molecular Biology before joining the Department of Biotechnology (due to merging of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology departments). Dr Obasi, K. O. was on of the pioneer staff of the Department of Biological Science in FUTO when the new department was created in 2007. He was equally engaged by the School of Health Technology, FUTO to handle a number of postgraduate courses. Dr. Obasi, through hard work, has grown in lecturing profession from Assistant Lecturer to Senior Lecturer in FUTO before his appointment as an Associate Professor in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. Dr. Obasi, K. O. has over forty scientific articles to his credit. He is an assistant editor for the International Journal of Environmental Health and Human Development. He has supervised over forty Masters students in public health, co-supervised two Ph.D works and was a resource person for the Mandatory Continuing Education Programme of Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria.
