BIOGRAPHY: EBERECHI CECILIA OSUAGWU  (Ph.D)

 

 

Dr Eberechi Cecilia Osuagwu is a University Lecturer with experienced in teaching, research and community service.

She had her Bachelors degree in Forestry and Environmental Management (MOUAU), Masters in Environmental Management  (BUK), Ph.D  in Environmental Management  (MOUAU) and she’s currently  an ABD in Bioenvironmental Science  at Morgan State University, Baltimore Maryland (MSU – USA) where she is working on microplastics pollution in Zooplankton.

She teaches both undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of Natural resources conservation and management, Resource management, Environmental remediation, Environmental auditing, Industrial raw materials, Principles of ecology, Environmental Institution, Protocol and Treaties,  Ecological risk and disaster management , Community and Human development among others.

She carries out research in areas of biodiversity, soil and water pollution, Natural resources management, climate change, conservation and recently microplastics.

Dr Eberechi has been  a Road Safety Special Marshall since 2016 as part of her community service. She is the founder of Youth Climate  Action Network – Nigeria (YOUTH-CAN). In her quest to promote SDG 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 13 and 17.  Where she brought undergraduate students and fresh graduate students of Environmental related courses from different Universities in Nigeria through her mentorship to champion Environmental education outreach in the streets, primary/secondary schools, carry out sanitation awareness/ exercises, tree planting, sensitization/community engagement in climate actions, participate in climate Olympiads and partner with other climate related organisations in carrying out interventions that can help mitigate climate change effect on the environment.  She has also not only sponsor these mini projects but equally secured fully-funded  training opportunities for these students  in climate issues and computer programming.

She is a member of Organization of Women in Science for developing countries (OWSD), a member of  British Ecological Society. She is conservation advocate in Wildhub Community of Wild Team UK.  A two-time treasurer of International Female Association of Academic Doctors. She is a member  of World Association Academic Doctors, Nigerian Environmental Society, Global Citizen and American Water Works.

She serves as a mentor in the Organization of Women in Science for developing countries (OWSD)  Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike chapter and in British Ecological Society.

She is a board member of CANOPS  – Climate Action National Organic Permaculture Solutions for Africa  (Kenya) responsible for regenerative agriculture in the ASALS  of  Africa, she also serves as the focal point for West Africa.  She is the co-founder of ReSol Nigeria which is committed in  restoration of soil health to ensure food security.

She also believe in conservation  and sustainable management of our natural capital as the best way to live a healthy live and  enjoy a healthy environmen t and therefore projecting  soil restoration  and organic farming  through CANOPS partnership with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture using the training the trainers method to get farmers to move from using mineral fertiliser to organic farming  both in soil restoration, use of biomass and organic pesticides to produce healthier agricultural poroducts,  enhance carbon sequestration and facilitate carbon credits for the farmers in the long run.

She has written several published articles and presented some of her research work in both national and international conferences.

She was awarded a Fellow by the  Institute of  Policy Management Development,

Awarded Best Poster Presenter in Water conference in Dubai in March, 2022 Organised by United Arab Emirates University,

Awarded a PhD scholarship by Tertiary Education Trust Fund  through  MOUAU in 2021,

Awarded Christ Ambassador  by Catholic Women Organization in 2022 and  “Ezinwa ejiamatu” by Umunakanu Owerri Development Town Union in 2019.

She is open for collaboration and partnership in Environmental education program, researches on Conservation/pollution/ climate change and girl/youth/women empowerment projects.
