He went ahead to pursue his Master of Science degree at the University of Lagos and completed in 1990 specializing in Marine Ecology and Fisheries. He was appointed into the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR) in 1990 and deployed to the African Regional Aquaculture Centre (ARAC), Port Harcourt where he served at the Port Harcourt and Buguma stations of the Centre as a Research Officer from 1990 to 1994. In May 1994, he joined Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike., Abia State. In 2003, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike with specialization in Fish Breeding and Genetics. He has published many reputable research articles in local and international Journals. Most importantly, he has produced many students of Fisheries (BSc, MSc and PhD).
In his quest for more knowledge and as part of his Post Doctoral programme, he participated in a short course in Fisheries Management at CERTMA, Vigo, Spain in 2003. In 2007, he was part of the International Training on Fisheries Data Collection and Analysis, Wageningen International, Wageningen, Netherlands and in 2008 he attended the Haggai Institute of Advanced Leadership Training in Singapore. Anthony Nlewadim participated at the 9th Indo-Pacific Fish Conference at Okinawa, Japan as well as the International Symposium on the Filter Feeding Elasmobranchs: Unraveling their many mysteries, Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Okinawa, Japan in 2013.
In his professional society activities, Anthony Nlewadim joined Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) in 1990 and served as the National Assistant Secretary of the Society from 2004 to 2006; National Secretary of FISON, 2006 – 2010. He initiated the inauguration of FISON, Abia State Chapter. He is also a member of World Aquaculture Society (WAS) and International Biometric Society (IBS). He annually participates at the conferences organised by the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) and World Aquaculture Society (WAS).
As part of his administrative experience at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Anthony Nlewadim served as the Head of Department, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management (2003 – 2005, 2012 – 2013); Coordinator of Students’ Industrial Works Experience Scheme (SIWES) – 2008 – 2010. He was elected Acting Dean, College of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (CNREM) in 2010 and re-elected again in 2012. He served as Dean until November 2014. As the Dean of the College, he was instrumental to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Kentucky State University, Kentucky, USA and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, Nigeria in the area of Aquaculture and Fisheries. This relationship resulted to the boosting of fish production activities that gave Fisheries a pride of place in MOUAU.
Anthony Nlewadim served a one-year sabbatical leave at the Federal Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Abuja, Nigeria.
Presently, Prof. Anthony NLEWADIM is the Dean, College of Natural Resources and Environmental Management and elected as member, Governing Council of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.
Prof. Nlewadim is a devout Christian and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Theology. He is happily married to Mrs. Godslove Uche Nlewadim and they are blessed with three children.
